What do you think of when you hear chiropractor? You may be surprised to learn that there are many common misconceptions that people believe about chiropractors that simply aren't true.

Myth #1: Chiropractic adjustments are dangerous FACT: Chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of healthcare available. Chiropractors undergo extensive training (similar to medical doctors) and use gentle, controlled techniques. The risk of serious complications is extremely low — far lower than the risks associated with prescription medications or surgery.

Myth #2: Once you start, you have to go forever FACT: While many patients choose to continue with maintenance care because they feel better, you're never obligated to continue treatment. Your treatment plan is always your choice. Some patients come for a specific issue and stop once it's resolved.

Myth #3: Chiropractors aren't real doctors FACT: Chiropractors earn a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree, which requires 4+ years of graduate-level education after completing undergraduate studies. Their training includes anatomy, physiology, radiology, diagnosis, and extensive clinical hours.

Myth #4: Chiropractic is only for back pain FACT: While back pain is a common reason people visit chiropractors, chiropractic care can help with headaches, neck pain, joint problems, sciatica, sports injuries, and many other conditions. It's a whole-body approach to health.

Myth #5: Adjustments hurt FACT: Most patients find chiropractic adjustments to be comfortable and even relaxing. You may hear a popping sound (similar to cracking your knuckles), but this is simply gas being released from the joint. Many patients report immediate relief after an adjustment.
