What Is Non-Force Chiropractic? - All About Non-Force Instrument Adjusting with the Sigma Instrument

Written By Pro Care Health Center on March 30, 2018

Not all chiropractic treatment is the same.

If a gentler approach sounds ideal, you should think about non-force chiropractic.

This technique is used by at least 50% of all chiropractors nationwide and is known for its effectiveness. Instead of manual adjustments, your chiropractor will use a special tool that delivers results for pain relief and more.

Here’s how it works.

How Non-Force Chiropractic Works

This gentle treatment, also called the Activator Method, uses a special instrument to help your chiropractor make adjustments to the parts of your body that are out of alignment.

Using the Sigma Instrument

In particular, the Sigma instrument is a tool your chiropractor can use to deliver low-force, percussive impulses to your spine or key areas of your extremities to realign them and provide relief.

With the tool, the patient doesn’t generally need to be moved into various positions as other spinal and joint manipulation methods require.

This is in direct contrast to the high velocity, low amplitude (i.e. quick and short) thrust form of spinal manipulation, which can be more invasive.

The tool is also used to analyze your spine and discover frequency responses that are outside the norm in your vertebrae, which tells your chiropractor exactly where you need adjustments.

Which Conditions Does Instrument Adjusting Treat?

An array of alignment issues can benefit from instrument adjusting. Here is a sample of problems it can help alleviate:

  • Whiplash injuries
  • Muscle spasms/strain
  • Sciatica
  • Herniated discs, bulging discs, or disc injuries
  • Headaches/migraines
  • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)
  • Back pain and neck pain
  • Fibromyalgia
